Many people's lives look good on paper but in reality involve significant struggle:
I offer Psychotherapy and Couples Therapy that aims to support you in the areas of life that are less amenable to strenuous effort and instead require a different kind of exploration and experimentation: how you feel, how you relate, how you create meaning.
The foundation of my practice is extensive training in evidence-based Cognitive-Behavioral Therapies (including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Functional Analytic Psychotherapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Integrative Behavioral Couples Therapy). Over my years of practice, I have come to draw on many lines of therapeutic wisdom (somatic, relational, dynamic). But I am primarily a practitioner — my orientation is towards what is helpful for my clients, not towards a particular theory.
With all my clients I seek a balance of understanding and action:
Understanding: We will shape a nuanced, resonant view of your situation and how you act in that situation.
Action: We will translate our understanding into a clear path towards change. There will often be homework for you to practice between sessions.
I will offer you empathy and compassion. I will also offer you honesty and challenge. Our sessions will be successful when you are able to not only do things differently as a result of meeting with me, but also find a different perspective on the situations in your life. We will communicate about this balance and how well we are reaching your goals as we move along.
I balance my training as a clinical psychologist with my expertise as a leadership coach and organizational consultant, so I can help across personal and professional parts of your life.
Common areas of focus include:
self awareness
working with fears/anxieties
emotion/mood regulation
improving relationships
resolving conflict
overcoming self limiting patterns
managing stress
becoming more assertive
solving problems
creativity
I am available for sessions with Washington State residents via video-conference/phone. In my experience, and according to the research, remote sessions are equally impactful as in person meetings.
I'm a Licensed Psychologist in Washington State: License PY60382108.
